Quote from 1303s_vortech :There is torque loss with cvt/auto (due to slip factor), engine braking is weaker, fuel consumption is worst...well... apart for people with handicap, could someone tell us what's the benefit when you can use your legs & feet as a normal person do?

Please dont tell its easier to drive in traffic jam, there's none on a race track...

I suppose you will sell your vacuum-cleaner and use your broom instead? Good, it saves a lot of energy

Modern auto-boxes have very complex software built in. For example, when and how much let the torgue converter to slip so you can accelerate better from 5km/h in 2nd gear, but when to decide to change gear to 1st when throttle position is gone down too much, or when speed increases the slip will be reduced. gradually depending on throttle position, speed, load of car...

I say no to auto-boxes in lfs is very complex to program and get it really right! And i have driven a car which had a autobox with flawed software in it. the software destroyed the gearbox!! by making wrong gear down changes(3rd -> 2nd at 110+km/h on a standard road car with a standard 2 liter engine, auch!)

Quote from Sobis :pff... my specs: AMD Athlon (tm) 3000+ 1,8 GHz, 2GB RAM, 1 GB(but my Win 7 shows only 512 MB ) VRAM (nVidia GT 240).

At cruise server (For example: AS4x) I get 40-80 fps and when cars (7+) on screen I get 20-50 fps.

Maybe try updating your drivers?

Very consistent with performance of the system of the topic starter Same generation hardware same performance?

fps with lfs on my system: 100, many cars: 100fps, always 100 boring:auto:

Quote from osteriossi :So i have some FPS lags on lfs, normally its something 50-60, but when i see few cars front of me it drops to 25-35. And one time my firend visited at my house and he has S2, i wanted to try if my computer can run open tracks, and then it drops from 50 (original track) to 5-15 (open track), what is my problem, i think my computer meets system requirements.

System specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) Processor LE-1620 2.4 GHz
2.0 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1250 830.6 MB
Free disc space: 102.0 GB

Maybe too low ram? Thanks.

Maybe the whole system is a outdated? lfs doesn't need a very fast system, but your system-specs are really from the history books
option one: Buy new system
Alternative:
stop all unnecessary services, background programs, turn details to lowest setting possible, reduce screen resolution etc.

Quote from FPVaaron :Fields of at least 400, I'm serious. I want 400 cars all fighting for position.

First we'll need a track about 60km long and then it will be very cool! Good idea for 2018 when (maybe) everyone has at least 150mbit/sec up and down.

Quote from The Very End :It is. LFS does only utilize single core usage atm.
Scawen mentioned some time back that they are thinking of adding dual core (quad too probally) utilizing in the future.

There are now cpu's available which are really solely optimized to run multi-threaded applications, so multicore support better comes real fast!

o ups, my knowledge of f1 rules is outdated :something

I was still thinking they still had traction control too. Without, overtaking is slightly harder but descent corner exit+DRS=overtake

"Traction control and ABS are already implemented but should be rolled out across all the vehicles to more closely represent the modern vehicle fleet.'

On racing cars these options are NOT common and any driving aid should be banned in any racing class

Just think of why many people stopping watching F1, overtaking: on corner exit pedal to the medal, your car will take care of your corner exit. action nr 2: push a button voila you passed the car which was in front of you. Real battles for position in F1 are currently something from the past. That is the effect of using driving aids....

Quote from MadCatX :What Bluebird suggests is not really a solution, it's rather a workaround that'd stop all these complains. If it was made clear that by sharing your skin online you automatically give anybody permission to modify it, people would stop complaining. However, it's more like "We can't stop murderers from killing people, so let's just make killing legal" kind of solution.
Perhaps the private skins should be shared separately so that only people you'd want to have them could get their hands on them.

Rather odd comparing criminal-acts with how to protect creation of art/software whatever.
Last decade open-source produces has proved itself as a very good way to produce lots of good software. It is effectively shutting down the unix-operating system and on your deskop number of great opensource programs is steadily increasing. Mozilla firefox to name a good example which forced microsoft to start improving their lousy browser.

For the few who complain they want to keep their skin for themselves, why the hell did they create their skins for? Just to show off to the very few who are online on the same server when they are online themselves? What a waste of your time If they are so concerned about stealing, they should be paying all those company's big money for all the logos they are using in their skins

Or maybe keep things open and stop complaining is a better idea? So others can improve or make worse what you have created. And we end up with a lot more different skins to choose from

can you censure the name of the progams?
Because kids who want it search it on google , then found names here , then download it and ruin the game.

Maybe there should be a change, any skin used online will be automatically public domain (like gpl)
No more arguing about stolen skins It worked very well for software, many people use opensource products/tools without even knowing it. (emule, torrent clients, 7-zip etc.)
So everyone can takes anybody's skin and edit it, improve it or make it worse. In the long run it will be more productive than if everybody keeps their skin to themselves.

Quote from 1303s_vortech :...and also helps low end systems to run the game without suffering too much (like the old pos in my sig).
Anyway having some more available paths wouldn't hurt.

edit: ...demo user & FE pics is obviously strange, but what if this guy is just a fake demo-user?

I think his idea is great

I think the lfs-crew should not be making adjustments for 8+ year old systems. In computer business it is very important to always move forward. Making software that also runs on old hardware is ok, but 8+ years? 5 years is already considered seriously old, outdated and seriously slow!

ignition cut on fzr back please
Bluebird B B
S2 licensed
Let me explain why i want ignition cut back on the fzr,

A fiat 500, a little cheap ass car if equipped with the auto/semi-auto gearbox, the car has a ignition/throttle cut system on gear change.

It feels not very good/natural/realistic that a $150.000+ does not have a sophisticated throttle-cut/ignition cut system for gear changes but just a simple old-school h-pattern gearbox. It just feels wrong for a major patch to still stick to old-school gear boxes from the past.

I think for the next patch, LFS should not have such old fashioned features on cars which are supposed to be modern day racing cars. Even better, many road cars have very fasts semi-auto gearboxes. So maybe the H-pattern gearbox should only be for cars which resembles history like uf 1000 and lx4? All other cars at should have least a sequential gearbox with ignition-cut? The slower cars, having a slower sequential gearbox and the racing cars having a faster/better sequential/semi-auto gearbox box?

Fox example gearchange in a XRT should take 0.40 seconds while the GTR class cars should change gear in 0.15 seconds, FOX and FO8 in 0.12 seconds and the bf1 in 0.05 sec?

What do you think????
kv gp long Y?
Bluebird B B
S2 licensed
Hello,
I saw some servers on line running kv gp long Y, a new very very long and very cool great track.
But it appears as autocross configuration with flawed checkpoints(laps not counting).
So i tried single player, at first i could select kv gp long, but after some clicking in the selection screen, the configuration disappeared?
After which i could only select the much shorter version which resembles more the old track?

Is the new track layout a mistake and should it not have been in this patch?? How can i get the "Y" configuration to work properly? because it is seriously cool 6+ minutes of driving!!!

I now continue testing at other tracks
